Robert Harold Shirley

Robert Harold Shirley, 78, passed away on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at DCH in Tuscaloosa. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2021 from 1- 2PM from Memory Chapel, immediately followed by a Chapel funeral service at 2PM. Services will be officiated by Bro. Ray Hallman, and under the direction of Memory Chapel, a Dignity provider. Interment will be at Memory Hill Gardens, Sermon on the Mount Garden, Tuscaloosa, AL.

Known by his family as “Robert Harold,” Mr. Shirley was born August 23, 1942 in Berry, AL to the late Robert Victor and Amy Lee McGee Shirley. He was a 1960 graduate of Tuscaloosa County High School. In 1963 he married the former Martha Jo Shute, together they just celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary, on April 6th. Most of his working life was spent at Buddy’s Rib and Steakhouse, where he enjoyed cooking, as well as getting to know all of their many customers. He loved fishing, cooking for his own family, and always being the funniest person in the room.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother John L. Shirley.

He is survived by his wife Martha Jo Shute Shirley; daughters Robin Shirley Watts of Northport and Amy Rebecca Shirley of Ormond Beach, FL; granddaughter Alyson Paige Watts of Birmingham; sisters Catherine (Allen) Brom and Barbara (Cecil) Wheat both of Northport; and brother Jim Shirley of Tuscaloosa.

Serving as Active Pallbearers will be Wayne Wheat, Joshua Shirley, Bryan Sanford, Andrew Wilkerson, Tanner Sanford, Travis Shirley and Chris Hammons. The family wishes to recognize Barbie Cleino, CRNP, and Craig Buettner, MD, as well as the Staff of DCH Regional Medical Center TCICU as Honorary Pallbearers.
