She is preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Jackson Denton Sr., her son Michael A. Denton, her father, Therman W. McKay Sr, her mother, Annie Pauline McKay, her sister, Mary Ann Kyzer, brother Therman W. McKay Jr., and brother Patrick McKay.
She is survived by son Virgil Jackson Denton Jr. (Rhonda Denton), her daughter Peggy Ann Channell (Sam Channell), her daughter Karen Denton (K. Lindsey), her son Kenneth W. Denton, granddaughter Melody Denton, her grandson Michael Channell (Renee Channell), her granddaughter Leslie Snow, her grandson John Paul Denton (Haley Denton), her granddaughter Jennifer Meggs Brooks (Austin Brooks), and her 9 great-grandchildren.
Peggy and Jack moved back to Tuscaloosa in the early 60s to raise their four children. During those years, Peggy worked at Bryce Hospital before she retired after 25 years. In 1986, her son Kenny had an automobile accident that left him in a wheelchair, so Peggy retired and dedicated her life to making sure that he was well taken care of. To most everyone, Peggy was known as Granny. She was the definition of a true lady and mother; she was dedicated to her family, never selfish, had a generous heart, and never had a harsh word for anyone. She loved to cook, and she always made you feel welcome anytime you walked through the door. She was a die-hard Alabama fan and raised her children as such. Through the years she followed the Tide, at homes games and even many of the away ones. She also attended church when she was able, along with her children and grandchildren. She had her faith, and it is that faith that reminds us, that though we miss her now, we will see her again.
Pallbearers are Michael Channell, John Paul Denton, Austin Brooks, Aaron Meggs, Danny Lafave, and Sam Channell.
