Martha Jean Freeman Procter passed away in the early morning hours at Hospice of West Alabama on 10/26/22 at the age of 95. Services will be held at Memorial Chapel on Skyland Boulevard in Tuscaloosa at 11:00 AM, with burial following at Memory Hill Gardens, Reverend Johnny A. Nixon officiating and music provided by dear family friend Dr. John R. Hinton. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service. Martha was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Gene Procter, her parents, J.D., Sr. and Genie Freeman, and by her brother and sister-in-law, J.D., Jr. and Ardeth Freeman. Survivors include daughters, Jan Whitt (Kenny, deceased) of Sardis City, Jeri Martin (Marty) of Talladega, son Doff Procter (Laurel) of Tuscaloosa; nine grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.She attended the University of Alabama, where she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority. Martha retired from Tuscaloosa Electrical Supply Co., Inc. and Freeman Electric Company where she was part owner of the family business. She was a wonderful homemaker and mom, an excellent seamstress – making many of her daughters’ clothes. She was very artistic, painting and drawing, and designed many of her husband’s needlepoint works. Martha was a charter member of the Tuscaloosa Sailing Club, and she loved to travel with her husband, family, and friends. They also enjoyed going to Alabama football games and gymnastic meets. After her beloved husband Gene died, she spent her time doing crossword puzzles and coloring – SO MUCH COLORING!Martha was a lifelong member of Northport Baptist Church, accepted Christ in 1939 at the age of twelve, and became a true example of a Proverbs 31 wife, always putting the needs of her husband and her children before her own. She was truly the “wind beneath their wings," loved dearly by her family and friends.Pallbearers will be Daniel Krueger, Shane Kilgore, Jeremy Kilgore, Walt Kilgore, Gray Gilmore and Peter Weitzmann.Honorary pallbearers will be Marty Martin, Zayne Price, Jim Freeman, and Barry Freeman.A special thank you to her caregivers, Susan Seymour, Janice McCray, Aurora (Boris) Reyes, and the entire staff of Hospice of West Alabama, especially Julie Burroughs, Jill Sanford, Carol Gartman, and Sue Anders.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in Martha's name to Hospice of West Alabama.
