She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Lois LaFollette and a brother, George “Buzzy” LaFollette, Jr.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Rufus, children Elizabeth (Matthew) Gruber, of Florence, Emily (Joey) Patton, of Tuscaloosa, and Robert (Lisa) Lewis, of Fremont, Neb., and one granddaughter, Maeve Patton.
Lois was born and raised in Jackson, Miss., where she graduated from Provine High School. She earned her B.A. from the University of Mississippi, where she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi, and her M.A. from Mississippi College, where she was in Kappa Delta Pi honor society. She taught in the Jackson, Miss. public school system, Muscogee County schools in Columbus, Ga., DeKalb County schools in Atlanta, and Tuscaloosa city schools in Alabama.
She was active in the Philanthropic Educational Organization, Alpha Omicron Pi sorority alumni, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Daughters of the American Revolution. She also was a member of Canterbury Episcopal Church, Episcopal Church Women, and Daughters of the King.
Funeral services will be at Canterbury Episcopal Chapel in Tuscaloosa on Friday, November 17, 2023. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. with service to follow at 11. Family will receive friends at 11:00a.m. Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Lakewood Memorial Park Cemetery in Jackson, Miss. Graveside services will follow at 12:00p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Home In Place, Tuscaloosa, or Hospice of West Alabama.
