Justin Lee Smith was born on September 6, 1977 and died September 29, 2022 surrounded by his family. Burial will be held Monday, October 3 at 10:30 a.m. at Central Cemetery in Emelle, AL. Visitation will be Monday, October 3 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Tuscaloosa, AL with a Celebration of Life to follow with Rev. Richard Vise officiating.
He is survived by his wife Amy, sons Henry Mills and Harmon Charles; parents Micky and Lolita; sister Anita Lovelady (Clay); in-laws Chuck and Cindy Freeman; brother and sister-in-law Adam and Amanda Freeman; nieces and nephews Joseph Lovelady, Ben Lovelady, Caroline Freeman, Sarah Lovelady and Charlie Freeman.
Justin was raised on his family’s generational farmland at Ramsey Station, AL and has called Tuscaloosa home since 2006. He was a partner in the Cross and Smith Law Firm.
Justin attended Sumter Academy, Class of 1995 and then received his undergraduate degree from the University of West Alabama and his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree, cum laude, from Mississippi College. While in law school he was the Executive Editor for the Mississippi College Law Review and a member of Honor Court.
Justin served as president of UWA National Alumni Association, president of UWA Board of Trustees and spearheaded the formation of the University Charter School in Livingston, AL. He was also an advocate for youth sports, where he served as a coach for many baseball and flag football championship teams, most notably the Cardinals, Bulls and Bears. Justin was an elder at Trinity Presbyterian Church and also led adult Sunday school classes.
Justin was a loving husband and father. His faith, leadership and tenacity made a lasting impact in all aspects of life.
