TUSCALOOSA - John Young Rudd, age 76, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, after a long and valiant battle with cancer. Born in Warrenton, NC, to Floyd and Virgie Rudd, John lived most of his life in Tuscaloosa and was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He enjoyed studying American history, especially the Civil War. John served his country in the United States Air Force and worked for several years as a firefighter with the Tuscaloosa Fire Department and Genright Rescue Service. He later worked with P.E. Lamoreaux and Associates, which gave him the opportunity to spend time outdoors in nature, where he was always happiest. John was very loving and proud of his daughter, Amy Rudd Niesen and grandsons, Nicholas Niesen and John B. Niesen, all of Birmingham. He is also survived by his brothers, Kenneth Rudd, Hayward Rudd and Tony Rudd, all of Tuscaloosa. Services for John will be held Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Tuscaloosa. The family will receive visitors from 1 to 2 p.m. and funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. with Rev. Herb Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Hill Gardens in Tuscaloosa with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. The family would like to give a special thank you to the doctors and nurses at the Hospice Unit at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Tuscaloosa for their loving care and support during John's final days.
