Joan Swaffield Brewer

TUSCALOOSA – Joan Swaffield Brewer, age 88, passed away June 5, 2022 at her home. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Dr. Tim Lovett officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Ms. Brewer was preceded in death by her first husband, Len Swaffield; second husband, John Brewer; daughter, Susan Tunnell Valdez; parents, Ella and Bert McCourt; and brother, Robert McCourt.

She is survived by her son, Tom Swaffield (Pam); son-in-law, Pedro Valdez; sister, Ellen Stone (Sam); grandchildren, Brian Swaffield (Rebecca), Steven Tunnell (Jennifer), Forrest Swaffield (Lindsey), Stephanie Jones (Josh), and Ana Valdez; great-grandchildren, Madison Sims (Matt), Morgan Tunnell, Mackenzie Jones, Shelby Swaffield, Will Tunnell, Jackson Jones, Hunter Swaffield, Heidi Swaffield, Bridget Swaffield, Tucker Jones, and Charli Swaffield; and great-great-grandchildren, Parker Sims and Hudson Sims.

Pallbearers will be Brian Swaffield, Steven Tunnell, Josh Jones, Forrest Swaffield, Craig Jones, and Ronald Tidwell.

Honorary pallbearers are Jeanetta Hinton, the staff of “A Touch of Love,” Dr. Sunil Chandra, the staff of Enhabit Home Health & Hospice, Bethel Presbyterian Church, and friends and neighbors in the Holt community.

In lieu of flowers donation may be made to Bethel Presbyterian Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
