James Edward Hardin, age 83, of Tuscaloosa, died Sunday, April 25, 2010. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Pastor Donald Payne officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Hardin was born on May 9, 1926, in Guin, Ala. He was retired from Alabama Power Company in Tuscaloosa, Ala. in 1991. He was a member of Forest Lake Baptist Church for over 50 years where he served as a deacon and was a longtime member of The Gideons.
James was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Hardin, his mother, Claudia Hardin, and his sister, Lois Chiarella.
James is survived by his wife of 60 years, Monteen Hardin; three sons, Greg Hardin (Sheri) of Sugar Land, Texas and Neal Hardin and Paul Hardin (Shannon), both of Tuscaloosa; his brother, Scottie Hardin (Katherin); his sisters, Sue Deslattes (Huey) and Opal Brown; his sister-in-law, Juanita Sparks; his brother-in-law, Jack Chiarella; and six grandchildren, Brett Hardin, Lacey Hardin, Sean Hardin, Shana Hardin, Hannah Hardin, and Evan Donahue.
Pallbearers will be two grandsons, Brett Hardin and Sean Hardin, and friends, Roy Lamon, James (Monk) Mosley, Jimmy McCollum, and Willard Wyatt.
Honorary pallbearers are Kyle Powell, Odis Burroughs, Butch Kincaid, Don Terry, James Wright, Dr. David Potts, the staff of Amedisys Home Health and Hospice, and the caring staff of Hospice of West Alabama.
James will be remembered for his quick wit, infectious smile, his love for others, his faith in God, and his devotion to his family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Forest Lake Baptist Church.
