James Robert Fuller, affectionately known as “Silver Fox”, was born on September 12, 1942 in Jasper, AL to James David and Evie Dee Fuller. He was the oldest of eight children and confessed Christ at an early age at Greater Shiloh Baptist Church.
James Robert graduated from Walker County Training School in Jasper, Alabama and later moved to Tuscaloosa, AL. He retired as a Custodian for the Tuscaloosa City School System after working many years at Central High School (West Campus). Some of his favorite things to do were watching westerns and of course Alabama football, taking pictures (especially when you weren’t looking), eating Krispy Kreme doughnuts, popcorn, and BBQ from Thomas Rib Shack. He also enjoyed playing card games, checkers and telling stories from his younger years and of his experiences while living in Jasper.
James Robert served 2 years in the United States Army from Jan 1967-Jan 1969 and served 33 years in the Army National Guard from Jan 1969- Sept 2002. He also completed a tour in Vietnam and received the following awards during his military career: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Combat Infantryman Badge.
James Robert was a true fighter (if you know, then you know) and he fought hard through his illness up until his last breath. Surrounded with love, prayers and songs, he departed this life on November 23, 2024 at Hospice of West Alabama. He is preceded in death by his parents, James David and Evie Fuller, his sisters Amanda B. Shelton, Minnie Ree Fuller, Mary De’Lois Fuller, and two brothers Will Thomas Fuller and Rodney Summerville.
He leaves to cherish Luella Fuller, mother of his children, his children Pamular Fuller, Robert (Felia) Fuller, Anthony Fuller, Delois (Demetrius) Black all of Tuscaloosa, AL, a son Thomas Gaines of Dora, AL, siblings Evie Moore Palmer of Jasper, AL and Carolyn (Charles) Phillips of Broadview, IL.,, Yocus (Evelyn) Jones of Harvest, AL, Falana (Victor) Bryant of Demopolis, AL, Coley Evans of Jasper, AL, Starr Summerville (Cornelius) Hurt of Huntsville, AL, grandsons Brennen Fuller-Lee of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Stephen Gaines and Zachary Gaines of Dora, AL. He also leaves behind his loving caretakers and a host of other family, relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank those who took care of our father while at the VA Medical Center and Druid City Hospital Intensive Care Unit. We would also like to thank Hospice of West Alabama for the great care and compassion shown during our father’s illness and passing and Memory Chapel Funeral Home for their support during the finalization of our father’s service.
