James "Jim" Knox Boteler, Jr., age 65, of Mobile, died Nov. 16, 2011, at W.F. Green Veterans Home in Bay Minette. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. today at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Dr. Ken Dunivant officiating and Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be today from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Dean Roberts Boteler; his brother, John Myron Boteler; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Boteler of Holt and Mr. and Mrs. M.C. Roberts of Tuscaloosa.
Survivors include his daughter, Linnie Boteler Pawleck (Andrew) of Englewood, Colo.; his son, James Knox Boteler, III (Marian) of Mobile; his sister, Susan Boteler Herndon Caples (Bruce) of Tuscaloosa; his sister-in-law, Susan Parkhouse Boteler of Fairhope; his father, James Knox Boteler, Sr. of Tuscaloosa; and his grandchildren, Anne Gliddon Boteler and James Knox "Jimbo" Boteler, IV of Mobile, and Reed Elliott Pawlek of Englewood, Colo.
Jimmy was a 1964 graduate of Tuscaloosa High School, where he lettered in three sports. He graduated from Livingston University in 1972, where he served as SGA President and also president of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and an avid outdoorsman. He co-owned Boteler Meat Distributors in Mobile with his parents and was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Deacon and an Elder and "chief cook" for many years. He coached local youth baseball and softball teams – his greatest joy in life was the pride he took in his children and grandchildren. He never missed the chance to share a meal, story, and a laugh with his friends and family – Jimmy was always the life of the party.
Pallbearers will be his son-in-law, Andrew Pawlek of Englewood. Colo.; brother-in-law, Bruce Caples of Tuscaloosa; nephews, Jay Herndon of Atlanta, Ga., Rob Herndon of Birmingham, and J.P. Robinson of Nashville, Tenn.; cousins, Joe Boteler, Wayne Boteler, II, and Jack Roberts, all of Tuscaloosa, and Dick Robie of Lake Jackson, Texas; and lifelong friend, Jerry Evans of Gordo.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to William F. Green Veterans Home, 300 Faulkner Drive, Bay Minette, AL 36507; or Central Presbyterian Church, 1260 Dauphin Street, Mobile, AL 36604.
