Hazel Ann Skelton Lake, of Coker, Alabama passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2024. A Graveside Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at Memory Hill Gardens with John Vaughn and Bob Kersteller officiating.
Hazel was preceded in death by her father, Leonard Skelton; mother, Murlene Maddox Skelton; brothers, Leonard Wade Skelton, Charley Hewitt Skelton (Chuck); spouse, Billy Lake; son, Billy Lake Jr. "Buddy"; granddaughter, Courtney Lake.
Hazel is survived by her sister, Wanda Lajune Skelton Smith (Elmer Smith "Euse"); daughter-in-law, Karen Crawford Lake.
Hazel Lake was a standout student and cheerleader during her high school years in Brownville, where she graduated at the top of her class. Following high school, she pursued training and certification as a radiology technologist at Druid City Hospital (DCH). Her career spanned many years at DCH Regional Medical Facility, where she worked in both clinical and managerial roles. Hazel's dedication and expertise earned her the position of Director of Outpatient Radiology, a role she held until her retirement.
Hazel married Billy at First Wesleyan Church, making the beginning of a lifetime of shared faith and community involvement. Together, they remained active members of the church, building many enduring friendships. Hazel played an integral role in the church, building many enduring friendships. Hazel played an integral role in the church, teaching children's Sunday school and ensuring her granddaughter, Courtney, was raised in the faith. After retiring from DCH, Hazel continued to serve by working in the church office and later as a transcriptionist for Dr. Somerford's office.
Sports were a constant source of joy for Hazel. She and Billy were avid fans of Alabama football, Atlanta Braves baseball, Alabama gymnastics, and Alabama softball, sharing countless moments of excitement and camaraderie over the years.
Hazel's life was defined by her devotion to her family, her career, her faith, and her passions, leaving a legacy of love and commitment to those who knew her.
Pallbearers will be Doug Hollyhand, Tom Gilbert, Larry Miles, Tony Clark and Carl Faulkner. Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Meggs and Jim Jacobs.
