On Sunday Morning, July 9, 2023 at 5:35AM Geraldine “Jerry” Spiva Elmore passed away peacefully at Hospice of West Alabama. A Celebration of her life officiated by Dr. Jim Sexton and Dr. Will McGee will be held on Wednesday July 12th at 1:00 at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial provider. Graveside service will follow at Tuscaloosa Memorial park. Visitation will be from noon till 1:00 p.m. at Heritage Chapel.
She is preceded in death by her parents Gardner and Ethel McClure Spiva, and her husband David Lee Elmore, her sister Vivian Spiva Dillard, and brother John Dewey Spiva. She was survived by her loving son, Mike Elmore, brother Andy Royce Spiva (Ruby) and lots of nieces and nephews.
Jerry was a devoted wife, mother, aunt and friend. She spread joy to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was a dedicated member of Calvary Baptist Church for 70 years where she was a well loved member of Fidelis Sunday School Class and enjoyed volunteering in the flower ministry. Throughout the years Jerry enjoyed traveling all over the world, making many new friends on each journey. Among her many hobbies was her love of reading, as well as scrapbooking. Spending countless hours researching and documenting her family genealogy, Jerry left a legacy of memories for family and friends. A lifelong Alabama Football fan and would add a hearty ¨Roll Tide¨.
Jerry was born on March 7, 1930 in Blairsville, GA She attended Union County High School in Blairsville, Georgia and Young Harris Junior College in Young Harris, GA. After marrying David Lee Elmore in 1950 and living in Anniston the couple settled in Tuscaloosa in 1953. For many years Jerry worked as a valued member of the Creative Displays team, a nationally recognized outdoor advertising firm founded by Lewis Manderson, Jr. As Secretary/Treasurer in the corporate office for 25 years, Jerry developed many close relationships that lasted a lifetime.
Pallbearers will be Scott Brown, Sonny Elmore, Dominic Johnson, Ricky Spiva, Larry Spiva, Dr Jimbo Wilhite, John Cameron Wilhite and Jake Wood.
Honorary Pallbearers are Dr Pamela Hughes, DCH Cancer Center, Members of Fidelis Sunday School Class at Calvary Church, Former employees of Creative Displays and their families,Barry Blakeney, Brooklyn Brown, Ruth and Joe Brown, John and Bonnie Dill, Linda Dill, Buddy Earnhardt, Anne Marie and Greg Goodman, Alan Hartley, Tony Smithson, Brenda and Rodney Truelove, Floy Ricks, Jim and Evelyn Sexton, JoAnn Wood, Brian and Carla Wilhite.
