Gerald “Digger” Morrison, age 68, of Duncanville, died Feb. 14, 2013, at home. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Liberty Baptist Church with Harvey Dockery and Rev. Kenny Overstreet officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leo Morrison; his mother, Patricia Elenore Morrison; and his brother, Billy Morrison.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Shirley Morrison; his daughters, Patricia Creel and Bridgett Barrett; his sons, Kenneth Fountaine (Rose), Darrell Morrison, and Steve Morrison (Caitlin); his sister, Pam Confetti (Richard); his brother, Richard Matuchi; his grandchildren, Jacob Fountaine (Jessica), Ginger Watts, Elizabeth Fountaine (Brandon), Cory Watts, Matthew Barrett, and Reese Boyd; and his great-grandchildren, Farrah Morrison, Ava Watts, and Braxton Strickland.
Digger was born November 10, 1944, in Berkley, California. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was known to many as a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and husband. He enjoyed cooking for his family and spending time with them. His favorite hobby was playing golf.
Pallbearers will be Steven Morrison, Jake Fountaine, Kenneth Fountaine, Matthew Barrett, Jeremy Gilliland, and Cory Watts.
Honorary pallbearers are employees of Hard Wear and SSAB, Moose Lodge #804, members of the Hagler community, and Hospice of West Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama, Moose Lodge #804, or Liberty Baptist Church.
