Edwina Beams Junkin passed away September 18, 2020 at Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Services will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, September 26, 2020, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Gardens, 2200 Skyland Blvd East, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405.
Ms. Junkin was born on June 6, 1925, in Fayette County, Alabama, to the late Carlis and Ruth Beams. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Arnold Junkin, and brother George Beams.
She is survived by her son, James Edward Junkin (Janet) of Lone Tree, Colorado; granddaughters, Caroline Brown Matthews (Grant) and Lindsay Elizabeth Rudy (Stephen), who also reside in Colorado; her sisters Sara Sullivan and Olna Gladys Pugh (Wayne); nephews, Mark Pugh and Mike Cheatham; and niece, Tonya Beams; as well as great nephews and great nieces.
She was married to James Arnold Junkin for 63 loving years. Edwina graduated from Tuscaloosa County High School and attended business school afterwards. She retired after many years with the State of Alabama. She and James enjoyed square dancing and were members of numerous square dance clubs in west Alabama. They owned a travel trailer and made many trips around the South and out west to visit their son and granddaughters. She always enjoyed sewing clothing for her granddaughters when they were young and also for her square dance club. She greatly enjoyed working on a variety of numerous arts and craft projects, all indicative of her many talents and creativity. She was a long time member of Five Points Baptist Church and she enjoyed sewing with the Quilting Club.
The family wishes to recognize her beloved, faithful caregiver, Deborah Edge, who attended to her for many years, the members of Five Points Baptist Church in Northport, Alabama, and the staff of Aspire Physical Recovery of West Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Hospice of West Alabama or Five Points Baptist Church.
