Edward E. Shuttlesworth, age 88, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., passed away August 13, 2018. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, August 16, 2018, at Memory Chapel with Josh Howell and Billy Gray officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Memory Chapel, a Dignity Memorial Provider, officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William A. Shuttlesworth and Ruby Kizziah; sister, Louise Gafnea; and daughter-in-law, Racheal Shuttlesworth.
Survivors include his wife, Martha T. Shuttlesworth; sons, Eddie Shuttlesworth and Teddy Shuttlesworth (Sherry); brothers-in-law, Donald J. Taylor and Samuel P. Taylor; and grandchildren, Amy Newsome (David), Kristy Allen (Chuck), Stephanie Beck, Teddy Shuttlesworth, Jr., Perrin Shuttlesworth (Stacy); 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Gene was born in Cedar Cove, Alabama. He served his country in the Army in the Korean Conflict. Well known as an auto parts specialist in the Tuscaloosa area, he acquired many friends throughout the years. He was co-owner of Cottondale Dari King and the CFO of Gulf Shores Beachside Condos.
He faithfully served the Lord as a 60 year member of Hopewell Baptist Church where he was a deacon and Sunday School Director. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need no matter the task.
He loved his family and was a great influence on his sons and grandchildren. Gene was a devoted husband to his loving wife, Martha for over 66 years. He was happiest when surrounded by his family and his faithful companion, Mocha. He was deeply loved by many and will be greatly missed. Our peace and comfort comes from knowing he is now at home with our Savior and Lord.
Pallbearers will be Brad Glover, David Newsome, Ethan Newsome, Chuck Allen, Hunter Allen, Jaden Allen, Christopher Beck and Justin Beck.
Honorary pallbearers are present and former members of Hopewell Baptist Church, staff of Hospice of West Alabama, caregivers, Kathy Barner, Wanda Morrison, Erica Azwell and Sydney Curren.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hopewell Baptist Church.
