Doris Tew Jacobs

Doris Elizabeth Tew Jacobs of Eutaw, AL, passed away on August 23, 2021 at the age of 105. She was born in Ward, AL, on June 13, 1916 to the late James and Mollie Tew and was the youngest of seven children. She grew up living a simple life on the farm where she loved tending to all the animals. She met her husband, Bernice Jacobs, at the movie theater in York, AL in September of 1940 and they married shortly after. They lived in several towns before finally settling in Eutaw, AL where they built their home in 1950 and raised their two sons. She was a beautiful, faithful Christian lady and a member of the Eutaw Baptist Church. She cherished her family, friends, neighbors and beloved cat (Lucy) and will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Bernice E. Jacobs, parents; James and Mollie Tew, sisters; Emma Lucille Wilkerson, Hattie Ruth Walker and Mary Ethel Moody, brothers; James Leitch Tew, John Hilry Tew and Horace Ray Tew, and an infant daughter.

Survivors include her two sons; Rodney Jacobs and Sidney Jacobs (Jeanelle) both of Greensboro, AL a granddaughter Melissa McClendon (Coleman) of Greensboro, AL and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday August 30, 2021 at the Eutaw Baptist Church, with visitation beginning at 1pm, until the 2pm Funeral Service. Interment services will immediately follow from Mesopotamia Cemetery. Services will be officiated by Bro. Roy Sanford and Bro. Gene Dockery, and under the direction of Memory Chapel, a Dignity Memorial provider.

Active Pallbearers will be Ronnie Britton, David Gandy, T.E. Lamb, Johnny Madison, Joe Sanders, and Johnny Williams. The family wishes to recognize Allen Davis as an Honorary Pallbearer. Special thanks to the Moundville Health and Rehab Nurses and Staff for the special care they provided to Doris and to all her loving neighbors who looked after her for so many years.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that Memorial Contributions be made to the Eutaw Baptist Church, PO Box 67, Eutaw, AL 35462 or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
