Dora Mae Busbee Lawless, age 82, of Tuscaloosa, died Sept. 16, 2010. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Evergreen City Cemetery with Rev. Mary Bendall officiating and Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Her parents, Jefferson D. Busbee and Lucile Forehand Busbee, sisters, Elizabeth Bradley and Madelyn Laidler, and brother, Ralph Busbee, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, K. Gordon Lawless, Jr.; daughter, Madelene Hollingsworth; sons, Kirby G. Lawless, III and Marc A. Lawless; and grandchildren, Christopher G. Lawless of Huntsville, Elizabeth M. Hollingsworth and Joseph A. Hollingsworth of Tuscaloosa, Gordon A. Lawless and Charles Portland (Porter) Lawless of Faunsdale.
Dora Mae B. Lawless was born on October 12, 1927, in Lilly, Ga. to Lucile F. and Jefferson D. Busbee. She joined the Army when she was 19 years old and became a registered nurse. While working as a nurse at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, Ga., she met Gordon Lawless. They married in 1951 when they moved to Washington DC. In 1955, she, Gordon, and son moved to Tuscaloosa where they lived until his retirement in 1985. They lived in Tuscaloosa and Destin, Florida. Dora Mae, otherwise knows as “Buzz”, and her husband traveled extensively after retirement. She loved reading, painting, her study club, volunteering with the American Red Cross, visiting with her sisters, and watching her grandchildren grow.
