Daphene Ballew Hathorn Walker, age 85, of Tuscaloosa, died April 9, 2013, at Hospice of West Alabama. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Rainbow Memorial Gardens in Rainbow City with Dr. John Nixon officiating and Mike Hannah and Rev. Jay Stewart singing and Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be tonight, April 10, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Walker; her parents, Ernest L. and Genie V. Ballew; her brothers, Bobby, Wayne, Glenn, James, and Bill Ballew; and her sister, Kathlean.
Survivors include her daughters, Andrea Glover of San Francisco, Calif. and Linda Huffstutler (Randy) of Moundville; her sons, Carl Hathorne Jr. (Susan) of Tuscaloosa and Jeff Hathorn (Anita) of Gadsden; special friends, Judy McClendon and Yvonne Schuessler; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Walker was born July 6, 1927, in Blount County. She was an active member of Northport Baptist Church. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved spending time with and cooking for her family and friends. She was loved by all of those whose lives she touched.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Glover, Carl Hathorne III, Josh Taylor, Taylor Channell, Dalton Kelly, John Powell, Frank Hamter, Jeff Gray, Keith Garner, Jimmy Wilkes, and Mike Hannah.
Honorary pallbearers are Dorcas Atkins Sunday School Class, Charles Sprayberry Sunday School Class, Dr. Ross Vaughn, Dr. Ford Simpson, and Dr. Melanie Graham.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Northport Baptist Church Building Fund or Hospice of West Alabama.
