Clara Alice Weaver Dodson, age 81, of Vance, died Nov. 28, 2012, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Evergreen Baptist Church in Vance with Rev. Jack Clary officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Pelham and Rebeccah Weaver, and her husband, Billie Dodson.
Survivors include her daughters, Sharon Kay Dockery (George) and Nelda Gay Bates (Larry); her sisters, Evelyn Ashcraft (Bobby) and Gayle Griffin (Earl); her grandchildren, Jeff Dockery (Jamie Lyn), Jessica Smalley (Josh), Steven Dockery, Philip Dockery, and Kayla Bates; and her great-grandchildren, Will Dockery and Erin Dockery.
Clara grew up in Vance, and graduated from Brookwood High School in 1949. She was married to Billie, her husband, for 36 years, and was a devoted wife. She worked at Bryce Hospital and Park Manor Nursing Home until she retired. She was a life member of Evergreen Baptist Church, where she served as church clerk and as a Sunday School teacher for many years.
Pallbearers will be Larry Bates, George Dockery III, Jeff Dockery, Steven Dockery, Philip Dockery, and Josh Smalley.
Honorary pallbearers are Henry Kizer and the men of Evergreen Baptist Church.
