Survivors include her son, William D. Jordan, Jr (Carlotta) of Asheville, NC; daughters Lucy Jordan Altherr (Jack) of Greensboro, GA and Rebecca Jordan Pow (William) of Tuscaloosa; grandchildren Carrie Altherr Jennings (Hank), Jonathan Altherr, Alex Pow (Allison), and Jordan (J.P.) Pow; and great grandchildren, Audrey Jennings, Henry Jennings, Caleigh Nicks, and Aaron Pow.
Carolyn was a native of Laurel, Mississippi, born on April 1, 1925. She attended Mississippi College for Women, then transferred to and graduated from The University of Alabama. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority while at UA. She was proud of her Mississippi roots and loved to connect with others from her native state whenever possible. Her Mississippi nephews and cousins were never far from her heart.
She was a faithful member of Covenant Presbyterian Church (now Grace Presbyterian). In addition to working in the nursery and delivering Meals on Wheels, she supplied the floral arrangements each Sunday for many years, primarily using flowers and greenery from the yard that she and her husband, Bill, tended. Her love of beautiful flowers continued her entire life and she especially enjoyed growing tall bearded iris.
Carolyn was a member of a number of social and study clubs, including Astra Study Club, Jesters Mardi Gras club, University Women’s Club, Tri Delta Alumnae, Junior League of Tuscaloosa, Sybarites and bridge groups. She also worked part-time at the Business Library at The University of Alabama for many years.
Carolyn and Bill were among the first residents of Capstone Village and were proud to be there from the beginning. As her health declined, she was fortunate to have loving caregivers and was able to stay at home with their excellent care. The family is most grateful for the love extended by Bette Hurt, Alma Tutwiler, Margie Hagler, Earnestine Johnson, and Jennifer Carlberg. Betty Warren and Pam Strickland also assisted in years past.
The nurses and staff of Hospice of West Alabama provided wonderful treatment, support, and care for Carolyn for over two years. Every time she would improve enough to be discharged from their care, she would find a way to be readmitted. We are forever thankful for their involvement in her final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to Hospice of West Alabama, Grace Presbyterian Church, or the charity of one’s choice.
