Betty Jean Simmons Lewis, age 84 of Cottondale, Alabama, passed away September 7, 2022 at her home. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday September 10, 2022 at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home with Vial Fontenot officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William Edward and Vera Simmons; brothers Joel Grace, Morris Grace and James Simmons; sister, Tommie Sue Thorpe.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, George A. Lewis of Cottondale, son, Eric (Gina) Lewis, Granddaughters, Alexandra Lewis and Anna Beth Lewis. Sister Linda Holloway (Larry) and many loved nephews and nieces.
She graduated from Brookwood High School in 1956 and from Shelton State in 1957. She worked at Duckworth-Morris Rentals and then traveled with her husband in the Air Force around the globe. After 19 years, she returned to Tuscaloosa where she was employed by the Tuscaloosa County Commission for two years. She worked as the Tuscaloosa County Juvenile Court Clerk from 1980 to her retirement in 1996. The light of her life was her family. She was a Christian and a member of Skyland Baptist Church.
Pallbearers: Lance Holloway, Jimmy Sellers, Gunnar Sellers, Brad Simmons, Gary Grace and Kenny Yarnell. Honorary Pallbearers are the class of 1956 Brookwood High School. A special thanks to Janet Marcum, Betty’s loving caretaker.
