He was preceded in death by his father, Eubeeman Newman, and brother, Roger Newman.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Newman; daughters, Marsha (Ron) Edge and Kristy (Scott) Sloan; brothers, Gary (Linda) Newman and Michael Newman; mother, Jane Newman; and grandchildren, Kayleigh Edge and Kolton Sloan.
Our Dad was born and raised in Tuscaloosa. In 1965 he graduated from Tuscaloosa High School. He married our mother in December 1968. He had two daughters who will always be his “Tate Chip” and “Pork Chop”.
Our Dad loved many things including NASCAR, Alabama football, and fishing. My sister and I spent many of our younger days sitting under the boat seats in the pouring rain while he and our Uncle Gary got ‘one more cast'.
Daddy also enjoyed taking us camping. We practically grew up on the lake. He taught us both to swim and water ski at a very early age. He never let us give up on anything and was always proud of any accomplishments we made no matter how big or small and was always quick to brag. You could not ask for a better dad, or Paw Paw.
In the words of his granddaughter “Sugabuga”, “He was taken from us too soon.” And as for “Kolt, Kolt”, in the short time he knew him he spoiled him for a lifetime. They will both grow up knowing what a great man their PawPaw was.
Those that truly knew him will miss him. But we all have to remember he wouldn't want us making a big fuss over him, love him and remember him for who he was; a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Pallbearers will be David Everett, Jeffery Lancaster, Greg Murphy, Nick Leo, Maury Costes, Joe Taggart, John Sloan, and Barry Sloan.
Honorary pallbearers are employees of Flowers Bakery, members of Mercedes Drive Church of Christ, friends and neighbors, Dr. McCormack, Dr. Simpson, and Dr. DeBell.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Mercedes Drive Church of Christ Building Fund. Condolences may be offered at www.memorychapelfuneralhome.com. Arrangements under the direction of Memory Chapel Funeral Home, Tuscaloosa, AL.
