Naomi Alligene and her twin brother, Roy Eugene, were born June 5, 1929 to Thomas Roy and Flossie Hughes Terry in the Hulls community in Tuscaloosa County. At age 11, the family moved to Harris Lake. During the 1930s and 1940s, Alligene and her siblings formed a gospel quartet where they traveled and sang at numerous churches in the Tuscaloosa County area. Alligene graduated from Tuscaloosa County High School in 1947 where she played trumpet in the marching band. On October 29, 1950 she married Paul Maxwell Madison. They were residents of Northport during their 47 year marriage. In 2006, Alligene moved to Dauphin Island with her daughters, Denese and Marian, and her son-in-law, Tommy, to fulfill their dream of living at the beach. Alligene will be remembered by her children, Denese Skelton (Tommy), Marian Madison, and Phillip Madison (Sheila); granddaughter, Lindsay Madison; grandson, Andy Skelton; great-grandchildren, Noah, Jonah, and Bellah Skelton; brother, Eugene Terry (Betty Jean); sister, Betty Tucker (Leon); sister-in-law, Jewel Madison; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and other family members, including the furry, four-legged family members, Molly, Snowflake, Shadow, and Snickers.
Alligene was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Madison; parents, Thomas Roy and Flossie Hughes Terry; sisters, Alice Kizziah and Earline Kizziah; grandson, Justin Skelton; and parents-in-law, John Henry and Rosa Lee Madison.
Alligene was a secretary/bookkeeper for Charles Davis, Jr. for more than 30 years with The Wayne Feed Co. and AA Rent Village. After Mr. Davis’ retirement, Alligene worked for Dr. Killough Henry Patrick, Jr. until his retirement.
While living in Northport, Alligene was a charter member of the Northport Lions Club Task Force, a member of the Community Bible Study Group, and she delivered meals for the Meals on Wheels program. After moving to Dauphin Island, she enjoyed being a member of the Red Hat Ladies Group and the Dauphin Island Women’s Club. Throughout her life, Alligene was a faithful, serving member of the Methodist Church, including Northport Methodist Church, charter member of St. Mark UMC, and affiliate member of Dauphin Island UMC. Through the years, Alligene taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, held leadership roles with the United Methodist Women, and assisted with Vacation Bible School. Most recently, until her health declined, she attended New Hope UMC. She will always be remembered for her beautiful smiling face and her delicious deviled eggs.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Memory Hill Gardens. The service will be officiated by her nephew, Kip Madison, with music by her nephew, Ken Kizziah. Calling hours will be 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at Memory Chapel Funeral Home prior to services.
Pallbearers will be nephews, Al Kizziah, Danny Hinton, Ken Kizziah, Larry Madison, Nick Madison, and Steve Terry.
