At age 82, Walter went home to our Lord; he passed at home in his sleep.
Born in Irwin, CA, Walter was the son of Harold and Florence Wells, he grew up on a farm in Hilmar, attending Hilmar High School where he played football, basketball and ran track.
He was a member of Berea Lutheran Church in Hilmar.
He supported his family as a Rancher, Turkey Catcher, and owned a Custom Hay Business.
Walter was always the first person to offer help to someone, even picking up hitch hikers along his way and taking then wherever they needed to go, and the last one to ask for help.
He loved to keep his yard green. He was always watering it and when he wasn’t watering it he was mowing it. And when he wasn’t working on the lawn he was working in the vegetable garden or tending to the fruit trees.
Visitations for Walter will be held from 3 - 8 p.m. Friday, February 1 at Whitehurst, Norton, & Dias Funeral Chapel, 286 West Main Street, Turlock. Funeral Service-10AM, Saturday, February 2,2013 at Whitehurst, Norton & Dias Funeral Chapel, Chaplain Bob Linscheid will officiate. Burial at North Hilmar District Cemetery to follow service. Friends and family are welcomed at Berea Lutheran Church in Hilmar for a reception following burial.
Preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Wells, son, Walter N. Wells Jr., and his brother, Edwin Wells.
His survivors include five children; son, Dennis Wells of Hilmar, daughter, Marlene Rocha of Atascadero, daughter, Diana Wells of Hilmar, daughter, Ellen Wells of Hilmar, and son, Raymond Wells of Hilmar, and three siblings; sister, Twila Engler of Sacramento, sister, Ethel Anderson of Long Beach, and brother, Otis Wells of Hilmar. Walter leaves behind six grandchildren; Jermey Rocha, Natalie Emery, Kassandra Luis, Walter Wells III, Leanne Dornan, & Monica Wells, and eleven great-grandchildren; Alexander Luis, Peyton Emery, Matthew Luis, Paislee Emery, Christopher Luis, Parker Emery, Ashlyn Wells, Elizabeth Luis, Caitlyn Rocha, Joshua Rocha, & William Dornan.
