Maria Ligia Nunes

Maria Ligia Nunes, age 89, of Hilmar, California passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2017. Maria was born September 22, 1928 in Santa Bárbara, Terceira, Açores to Maria Lourdes Sousa and João da Rocha.

Maria is survived by: son Manuel S. Nunes of Hilmar; daughter Mary Monteiro and her husband Joe Monteiro of Hilmar; daughter Mary Lou Lorenco and her husband Jermias Lorenco of Hilmar; brothers Carlos Rocha of Santa Bárbara, Terceira and João Rocha of Tulare; sister Paulina Gomes of Tulare and sister Tionelde Abreu of Hilmar.

Mrs. Nunes also leaves behind six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren to honor her memory.

Maria was preceded in death by: her husband of 57 years Manuel Nunes; her parents João da Rocha and Maria Lourdes Sousa; as well as four brothers and two sisters.

She was a dedicated parishioner of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hilmar and Our Lady of Fatima in Thornton and was an active member of S.P.R.S.I. in Hilmar

A visitation for Maria Ligia Nunes will be held Thursday, November 30, 2017 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Whitehurst-Norton-Dias Funeral Service: 286 West Main, Turlock, California 95380. A rosary service will occur later Thursday, November 30, 2017 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Holy Rosary Catholic Church: 8471 Cypress Street, Hilmar, California 95324. A funeral service will occur Friday, December 1, 2017 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hilmar. She will be laid to rest following the funeral service at Turlock Memorial Park: 575 N. Soderquist Road, Turlock, California 95380.
