Maria De Sousa Tavares, age 74, of Hilmar, California entered into rest on in Turlock, California on Friday, February 12, 2021. She De was born December 14, 1946 in Cedros, Santa Cruz, Flores, Açores to Ines de Jesus Furtuna and Jermias de Sousa.
Maria De is survived by: her spouse, Jose F. Tavares of Hilmar; son Luis Tavares (Anna) of Delhi; son Jeremiah Tavares of Hilmar; daughter Lucy Tavares (Joe) of Hilmar; brother Jose de Sousa of Terceira, Açores; sister Maria do Carmo of São Miguel, Açores; and sister Floripes Pimentel of Faja Grande, Flores, Açores.
Maria was preceded in death by father Jermias de Sousa, mother Ines de Jesus Furtuna, and son Jose Maria Tavares in 2017.
Maria De Sousa Tavares has seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren to honor her memory.
She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hilmar, California, PFSA, Con 41 of Modesto, and Alter Society of Holy Rosary.
A Visitation for Maria De will be held from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at Whitehurst-Norton-Dias Funeral Service, 286 W. Main Street, Turlock, California.

A Recitation of the Rosary followed by Funeral Mass will occur at 10:00 AM on Friday, February 26, 2021 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 20323 American Avenue, Hilmar, California. A committal service will follow at N. Hilmar Cemetery District, 8710 N. Tegner Road, Hilmar, California.
Serving as pallbearers are Joey Tavares, Paul Tavares, John Tavares, Louie Tavares Jr., Brandon Jorge and Jeremiah Tavares.
