Gertrude Sequeira passed away peacefully in her home on May 7, 2021 at the age of 94. Born in 1926 in São Jorge, Açores, Portugal she emigrated to California in 1966 with her husband Francisco and their two children Maria de Fatima and Manuel Luciano. She was a devoted, loving, nurturing, and hardworking homemaker, mother, wife, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was also employed as a cannery worker in the central valley. She was an extremely caring, and generous woman who enjoyed sharing the fruits from her garden and delicious homemade food with family, friends, and neighbors. One of her greatest joys in life were her grandchildren and great-granddaughter, whom she adored. She was a member of Nossa Senhora dos Milagres and enjoyed participating in local festas.
She is survived by her son Manuel Luciano of Manteca, daughter Maria de Fatima and son-in-law Carlos Pimentel of Livermore. She is also survived by her grandchildren Robert Cleghorn-Sequeira of Modesto, Frankie Sequeira of Manteca, Christina Pimentel-Siu and her husband Carl Siu of Livermore, and great granddaughter Kaya Pimentel, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her her loving husband of 64 years Francisco da Rosa Sequeira, her parents Envaristo Machado Bettencourt and Maria da Dores Bettencourt, her infant daughters Maria Odette, and Maria de Fatima, her grandson Michael Pimentel, her brother Manuel Raimoundo Bettencourt, and her sister Maria da Piedade Bettencourt.
Visitation will be held Tuesday May 25, 2021 from 4 to 7pm, with a rosary at 6pm at Whitehurst-Norton-Dias Funeral Service, 286 West Main Turlock, CA.
A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday May 26, 2021 at 11 am at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 505 E. North Street, Manteca, CA. Burial will follow at St. John's Catholic Cemetery 17871 Carrolton Rd, Escalon, CA.
