Wayne Allen Palm was born on July 1, 1959 to Gloria and Dallas Hazelrigg, in Olympia, Washington. He has two brothers Ernie (12 years old at that time) and Dale (11 years). Dallas and Gloria later divorced. Gloria married Joy Palm and he adopted Wayne, who was the only one still living at home. Joy had 4 children from a previous marriage- Les, Lyle, Lloyd and Vern who became brothers to Wayne, Dale and Ernie. Gloria, Joy and Wayne moved to Rochester, during his teen years. As a teen Wayne enjoyed motor-cross racing and car racing. Wayne’s dad, Dallas, died in 1977.
Wayne met Christine Lavery during 9th grade. They were married in Sept of 1978. They had a daughter, Latisha Louise Palm, on July 28, 1979. Wayne’s mom, Gloria, lost her battle with cancer in 1988. Wayne and Christine divorced in 1989. Wayne and Beth Belt had a son, Morgan Allen Belt, on Sept 2, 1991. They were married on August 17, 1992, and lived in Olympia. They were divorced on August 3, 1993. Wayne remarried again this time to Anna Barnes. They lived in Shelton, but traveled around a bit for fun. They also got divorced. Wayne’s dad, Joy, died at the beginning of 2000. Wayne found Jeanette in late 2000 early 2001. He became a part of her family, she has 4 children- twin daughters Hillary and Brianda, and two sons, Adam and Matt. During their time together they moved from a house out of town to an RV park closer to town, and put in a lot of years together. They separated in 2009. In 2010 June rescued Wayne from the “wilderness” of Shelton, brought him into her home and they have been together ever since. June got Wayne to go to the doctor and get a cancerous tumor removed from his back by that winter. His health has deteriorated since and then he lost his battle with liver disease on October 8, 2012. He passed away peacefully in his sleep.
Throughout his life Wayne had an array of jobs. He worked on cars with his brother Ernie. At the Paint Shop he did bodywork and painted cars. He worked on farms as a truck driver hauling many loads of wheat to the silo’s, and hauled potatoes and onions, in eastern WA and Idaho. He also worked at Falcone Schwinn putting together, working on, and selling bikes. Wayne traveled with the carnival, putting up and tearing down rides and running them. He painted airplane and jet engine parts in Shelton, and was a maintenance man for the RV Park that he lived in. He maintained his own lawn service business throughout the years during and in-between all of his other jobs.
Wayne was an avid fan of all kinds of racing. He has spent many hours watching the races. Two of his favorite NASCAR drivers were Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Kasey Kahne. Wayne enjoyed watching wrestling, which he has passed on to his daughter. Also he liked keeping up on boxing and football. Wayne liked to go bowling, skating, and playing pool. He has an extensive collection of hats. Wayne was very much an outdoors person he loved to go to a lake for the day and fish, also loved to go camping on a spur of the moment decision. He loved his animals – both cats and dogs.
Wayne had a great sense of humor and enjoyed bringing laughter to those around him and his loved ones. He has a lot of friends in many places. Wayne has left many nieces, nephews and cousins; along with his brothers, daughter, son, and all of his friends. He will be missed greatly and can never be replaced but his memory lives on through those he knew and loved.
