He attended Bellarmine and Lincoln High Schools in Tacoma, leaving before graduation to serve in the US Navy for two years, followed by four years in the US Marines. He served In both Korea and Japan.
On December 13, 1962 he married Patricia (Greenrod) Prather. They divorced in 1973.
On September 12,1981 he married Karen (Boone) Born.
His career was primarily in the floor covering industry. He owned his own business, Verner's Floor Covering, from July 1984 until his retirement In January 1995.
He was a lifetime member of the Tacoma Eagles Aerie #3, joining in 1956. He was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lacey, Washington where he served as a greeter. His passions were: volunteering, cooking, golfing, fishing and going to casinos.
Ted Is survived by Karen, his wife of thirty-six years, two sons, Michael and Darrell Verner of Lacey, seven step-children Terri Prather of Tumwater, Patrick Prather of Spanaway, Debbie Hayward of Lakewood, Kevin Born of Olympia, Daniel Born of Pittsburg, PA, Kanlna Chavez of Lacey and Douglas Born of Lakewood; sisters Beverly Slanina, Virginia Wooten and Carol Verner of Tacoma, Shirley Zuppone and brother-in-law George Zuppone of Brooklyn, NY; 22 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchlldren and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a Funeral Mass at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 14601 A St. S., Tacoma, Washington 98444 on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 12:30 PM with reception following. Interment will be at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at 11:30 AM. There will be a Memorial Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church In Lacey on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at 9 AM.
