Stephen Donald Bishopp

Stephen "Steve" Donald Bishopp Steve, 90, a resident of Olympia, Washington for 45 years, died peacefully at home on April 1, 2012. He was born November 21, 1921 in Longmont, CO to Stephen W. and Georgia (Smith) Bishopp. His mother died when he was five and he was raised by Stephen W. and Janie (Lucas) Bishopp. He attended Pleasant View Ridge School, a country school with eight grades. He enlisted in the National Guard in 1938 and upon graduating from Longmont High School, Class of 1940, he left on maneuvers with Company "G" 157th Infantry, Colorado National Guard. Steve entered the Army Air Corp in 1942, being stationed at Bassingbourn, England, a B-17 airfield, as part of the 91st BG, 322nd Bombardment Squadron, and was honorably discharged in 1945. He graduated from Colorado State University in 1958 with a Bachelors of Education and in 1961 with a Masters of Education. He also did further graduate study work at Texas A&M. He worked in various jobs up until his employment with the State of Washington, but especially enjoyed his five years of teaching machine shop at Adams City (Colorado) High School. Steve retired from the Washington State Commission for Vocational Education after 25 years of service. He was a life member of the National Education Association, the American Industrial Arts Association, the American Vocational Association and the Hobos Club at CSU, the only organization that guaranteed perpetual employment. Steve enjoyed hunting and fly fishing. He spent many enjoyable hours fishing on the nearby Deschutes River. He attended and enjoyed Bible Study Fellowship for many years. He was a member of Evergreen Christian Community Church and of late, Faith Assembly of Lacey. He was also a chairman of the Evergreen Christian (Center) Community School board for 6 years. Steve was preceded in death by his wife, Marga, his sister, Sarah of Longmont, CO, and his brother Jim of Tucson, AZ. He is survived by his three sons, Richard (Nancy) of Olympia, Robert (Meg) of Spokane and Michael (Karen) of Snoqualmie, a daughter, Evelyne, of Olympia, a sister, Glenna Jeager of Austin, TX, a brother, Frank (Thelma) Bishopp of Longmont, CO, eight grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
