Stanley Brooks Thorne was born October 4, 1923 In Lake Odessa, Michigan to Clyde and Lucille Thorne. He was the middle child of three, having had two sisters, Dorothy Webster and Grace Archer. At the young age of 18 Stan enrolled in the Army Air Corp Reserves and served his country in WWII as a B17 bomber pilot.
After completing his military service as an officer, he met Vera Edna Thorne. They were married in Sebewaing, MI in 1949. "Doc" and Vera ran a large and small animal practice in Marlette, MI. In the 60's a career move brought him and his family to Washington State. Stan and Vera had 4 children: Roxanne Thorne-LaGasa(Eric), Deborah (Thorne) McGlinchey, Craig Thorne(Sue), and Meegan Garza(Maui).
Stan's children fondly recall when he would take them on veterinary calls in Michigan: watching, learning, and even sometimes assisting. He was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening and rock hunting. His grandchildren often accompanied him on camping trips. He wasn't afraid to take on projects of carpentry, and even made special gifts of jewelry to his children from the precious stones he and his children collected on their excursions in their Bronco.
Stan lived in Rochester, Washington with Ann (Bray) Thorne, his wife of 8 years, who cared for him until he passed away peacefully at home. His love and sense of humour will surely be missed by his family and those whose lives he touched.
