Robert Griswold, age 83, of Olympia, Washington passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2022. Robert was born in New York City on April 21, 1939 to parents James and Alice Griswold.
Robert served many years in the Army throughout his life, including two tours in Korea. He was an avid learner and had two bachelor’s degrees – he studied education and Spanish at San Jose State and, years after he got a degree in writing from The Evergreen State College. He worked for a time as a middle school teacher in San Jose, CA, but his favorite teaching memories were from when he volunteered to help teach English to Korean teens during one of his Army tours. His final career was as a postal worker in Olympia and Lacey, WA.
Robert loved to travel, study Spanish, try new foods, read, and write. He also enjoyed camping, hiking, bicycling, and motorcycles in his younger years. He is survived by his two children Farrell and Robin, his stepson Shawn, and his sister Jinx. His love of travel, culture, and learning has been an inspiration, and the thing that has left the biggest imprint on his children.
