We are bidding farewell to Renee’ Jean Rhoads, beloved wife, mother, and sister. She passed peacefully, with family, after an unexpected poor recovery to surgery. We are thankful that she is no longer in pain, but desperately miss her.
Renee’ loved life. Her interests and hobbies included beach combing, agate hunting, gardening, knitting, figure skating, painting, and horses. Early health problems led to a close connection with her extended family and a love of reading. Renee’s collection of swan figurines is epic.
She had always been a family woman. Born to the Kraemers in Tacoma, WA, Renee’ and her younger brother Richard were close friends to the end. She met Marvin Jon “Dusty” Rhoads and married him in 1962. They just celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary planning a big family gathering for next year; their 60th. She took care of Dusty, her daughters, and anyone who needed a shoulder or encouragement. She became ‘Mom’ to various kids & young adults who otherwise didn’t have all the support they needed.
Her generous, giving nature led to a nurse’s license and work at Tacoma General’s ER. She also worked at St. Peter Hospital in Labor & Delivery, volunteered for 4-H, at North Thurston Schools, and Youth Bowling. Renee’ was always helping anyone who asked and trying new things. As life slowed down, she enjoyed her faith, the home she made with Dusty, and the growing, living things around her.
Renee’ is survived by Dusty, her two daughters and her cat Callie. She also left behind her brother, four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and many friends whose hearts she touched.
Thank you, Mom, for being there for us.
