For the majority of Ray’s life he was a resident of Washington, born in Poulsbo, to Genevieve Laurie (Nelson) Drummond and James Charles Drummond. He grew up on the family farm homesteaded by his great grandfather in 1885. In 1947, Ray graduated from North Kitsap High School. His graduating class often got together, and just this last September Ray attended his 70th reunion in Silverdale.
Ray attended two years of college at WSU (at the time Washington State College) before leaving school to join the United States Air Force in 1950, serving most of his enlistment in Germany during the Korean War conflict.
After four years of military service, Ray returned to Poulsbo to marry his high school sweetheart, Beverly Jane Morgan on October 15, 1955. They settled in Bremerton, where they started their family and Ray began his financial career with Pacific Finance Company. After thirteen years with Pacific Finance, Ray joined National Bank of Commerce beginning his long and esteemed career in banking. Ray celebrated his retirement in March 1995 from West One Bank, Washington. At retirement he was Vice President and the Olympia Branch Manager.
After retiring, Ray and Bev were able to enjoy traveling to the places they had dreamed of seeing together, especially their annual trips to Kauai, until Bev’s death.
After the loss of Beverly, Ray was blessed to meet Sharon Scholl, and was fortunate to share the last 19 years with her. They spent their time traveling and experiencing life together.
Ray was extremely community minded and was very involved in a number of organizations. He was a dedicated Rotarian and very proud to have been recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow. In the late 1960’s Ray was working in West Seattle and became active as a volunteer fundraiser for the YMCA. From 1968-1976 he served on the board of the Highline YMCA. In 1976 Ray moved to Olympia and continued his service to the YMCA, where he held many positions until his retirement from the board. He was also very proud of his Masonic work, achieving the position of a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, and serving as the Vice President of Finance for the Scottish Rite Scholarship Foundation of Washington. In addition, Ray served for many years on the finance committee for Saint Martin’s (College) University.
Ray’s passions were many, he especially loved his antique and vintage cars; and showing them off in community parades around the state. His passion for fishing started in his youth, whether it be on a charter boat on the Washington coast at Westport, or in the remote outback of Alaska, only accessible by seaplane.
Ray was preceded in death by his wife Beverly, mother and father Genevieve and Jim Drummond, sister Patricia Brenner, and son-in-law Jacob E. Uhrich. He is survived by his daughter Cindy Uhrich and grandson Christopher, daughter Lori Drummond (Joe Bell), his loving friend Sharon Scholl and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ray will be remembered as a loving husband, proud father and grandfather, caring uncle as well as a genuine, loyal and unwavering friend and mentor.
A private family Internment will be held at the Masonic Memorial Park. The family invites those who knew Ray to attend a Celebration of Life Reception on January 23, 2018 at Indian Summer Golf and Country Club, in The Oak Room from 2pm-4:30pm.
In lieu of flowers, you are invited to make a contribution the South Puget Sound YMCA or The Scottish Rite Scholarship Foundation of Washington.
A wonderful life lived well – He will be greatly missed
Love you Daddy!!
