Phillip, age 61, passed away on June 6, 2011 of natural causes in Tumwater, WA. Phil was born on January 21, 1950 in Fort Benning, GA to Willie and Yvonne Hatfield. In 1970 he joined the United States Army, and served for 20 years. He met his wife Kimberly in Tumwater, WA and married on January 20, 2001. Phil served proudly in the United States Army. During the Vietnam War he was an Infantry soldier and a Huey door gunner. After the war he served as a Drill Sergeant in Ft. Knox, KY and concluded his service as a First Sergeant in Ft. Lewis, WA. He enjoyed his retirement days cruising around on his lawnmower, and loved spending time with his family and friends. He always had his faithful dog, Ranger, by his side and spent time with his grandchildren by providing them with odd jobs. Phil was a life-time member of the VFW #5878 in Tenino, WA. Phil is survived by his loving wife Kimberly, and four children, Michelle Hatfield of Tumwater, Steve Hatfield with his wife Jenni of Lacey, and Brandon and Brettnie Bratchovd of Tumwater. He has seven grandchildren, Melanie Newcomb, Tyler Sundberg, Venessa and Samantha Hatfield, Robert and Scott Ullerich and Kendyle Greene. Phil lived his life to the fullest and gave so much to those who knew him. He was known as a straightforward, sharp-witted man who always had humorous stories and anecdotes. He is a true American patriot, who will be missed.
