June Mahr, age 69, of Olympia, WA passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at home with her family. She was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on January 18, 1956, the daughter of Harold Johnson and Marjorie (Pollpeter) Johnson. June graduated from O’Gorman High School in 1974 and South Dakota State University in 1978. After graduation she began teaching Home Economics at Moorcroft High School in Moorcroft, Wyoming. She met her husband Steve in Gillette WY in 1989 and they were married in St Matthew’s Catholic Church on July 14, 1990. June taught for several more years when she decided to take a break to raise her family. In 1996 she and her family moved to Olympia where she was active in her daughter’s schools and became a co-leader for each of their Girl Scout Troops. When she decided to return to work she worked at the Girl Scouts of Western Washington Center in DuPont, WA for 5 years. In 2013 she “retired” and began quilting on a full- time basis while working part-time at several quilt shops in Olympia. It didn’t take long for her to master the craft and produce many beautiful quilts. She became active in several quilting guilds and small bees with her quilting sisters.
