Judy Mae Pope, beloved wife and mother, went to be with Jesus on Friday, June 23rd, 2023 at 2:35pm. She spent her last minutes in her earthly body, before going to heaven, with her husband and daughters Christy and Cathy by her side, holding her hands and singing the lyrics to her favorite song "Goodness of God”. She is survived by her husband LeeRoy Pope, daughter Christy Norwood and husband Jeff Norwood, daughter Cathleen Pope, son Corey Pope and wife Karley Pope, her four grandchildren Mason & Cody Norwood and Ethan & Sienna Pope and two sisters, Diane Johnston and Elaine Dougherty.
Judy was born September 6th, 1942 in Portland Oregon, where she lived with her Mother, Lois McConnell and her sister, Diane Johnston until the age of 9. They moved to Centralia Washington when her mother married Lyal McConnell in 1951 and became “The Brady Bunch” living with two of Lyal’s daughters, Miriam and Elaine McConnell.
Judy graduated from Centralia High School in 1960 and then from Seattle Pacific College in 1964. She taught 3rd Grade for two years in Mountlake Terrace. She married LeeRoy Pope, that she met at Seattle Pacific College, on June 25th 1966 and moved to Santa Cruz California, where she finished her last three years of teaching, before having children. She had all three of her children during the next 7 years and became a “stay at home” Mom developing a career home based business making Christmas Ornaments and refrigerator Magnets that she shipped to stores all over the country.
In the Summer of 2000, after her home caught on fire, she moved to Olympia Washington and became a Landlord. That's when her creative skills shifted to making artistic decorative cookies, cake pops and unique theme cakes for her children and grandchildren on their Birthdays. But the most important legacy she left was her Christian faith, which she wholeheartedly shared with her entire family.
Memorial Service for Judy will be held Friday, July 7 at 11:00am at Mills & Mills Memorial Park in Tumwater Washington.
