Jon Eric Henricksen

Jon was born in Tacoma, Washington on September 28, 1949 and passed away unexpectedly at his home in Rochester, Washington on September 30, 2013 at the age of 64.

Jon was raised in the Parkland/Midland area, attending Parkland Grade School, Ford Junior High and graduating from Franklin Pierce High School in 1967. In his youth he was involved in school activities as well as the youth group at Bethesda Baptist Church, where he was raised. Upon graduation from high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps, where he served a tour of duty in Viet Nam before being discharged.

Jon was a free spirit who embraced the hippie culture of the late 1960’s and 1970’s. That lifestyle led him to move around for several years before settling in Tenino, Washington where he and his wife, Gloria, lived for many years. After Gloria’s passing, he lived in Tacoma, Ocean Shores and most recently in Rochester. He was a kind and gentle soul who would sit back and observe what was going on around him and never had an unkind thing to say about anyone.

Jon worked in the construction trade for many years. He was happy to help out anyone who needed him and volunteered his time and talent to Habitat for Humanity as well as helping friends and family.

Jon was preceded in death by his wife Gloria, sister Karen Williams, nephew Sean Williams and his father, Lee Henricksen. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Zack and Jessica Fairley and his granddaughter Zoe. He was a devoted grandfather whose eyes would light up whenever he spoke of Zoe. And he spoke of her whenever the opportunity arose. His home was decorated with photos of Zoe and her artwork. She was definitely the apple of her grandpa’s eye!

Also surviving Jon are his mother Evon Henricksen, uncle David Hart, siblings Tim (Carol), Mark (Madeleine) and Nancy Six (Richard) as well as several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind a large extended family and many good friends and neighbors. He will be truly missed by all who knew him and whose lives he touched.
