He was born and raised in a home in which a Sunday Morning worship service was held, the teachings of Christ were revered, and visits from ministers of the Gospel were frequent and highly valued. At age 14 he made his own choice to serve God and remained faithful to that commitment throughout his life.
He met Sheila Dean on a Sunday morning and they were married in 1960; he was a loving and supporting husband for 61 years. He will be missed by his sons, Robert of Olympia and Michael (Jennifer) of Whitehouse, Texas; his six beloved grandchildren, John Ostlund, Jeffrey Ostlund (US Army) and Jessica (Cody) Lewin; Anjenette, Jadynne, and Madison Ostlund. Last but far from least, the joy of his last four years, great grandson Cameron Lewin. He was an extra special uncle to Larry, Dan and Rodney Ostlund and their families.
He loved baseball as a youngster, passing his love of play to his sons. He played baseball and basketball at Stadium High School, graduating in 1957. He graduated from the University of Puget Sound in 1961. He proudly served his country in the US Army from 1963-1965. He then used his love of numbers during a long, fulfilling career in both public and private accounting.
Over the years he enjoyed taking his grandchildren on vacations, sharing his love of sports and history with his family.
We will greatly miss his nurturing spirit. He was the good natured one who always made time to listen and was consistently “slow to wrath.” His loving care for us all will live on in our cherished memories.
The service will be at 1:00pm on Friday April 29, 2022 at Swede Hall in Rochester, WA with a reception to follow. The viewing will precede the service starting at noon. The burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery in Tacoma at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 30, 2022.
