Jo-Anne was born and raised in Hoquiam. In 1942 she met and married the love of her life, Art. Following WWII, they settled in Santa Barbara, California. Art was called to active duty with his California National Guard Unit for service in the Korean War. In 1952 Jo-Anne and her three sons became an Army family when they joined Art in Japan. From Japan, the family moved to Oklahoma, Georgia, Italy, Virginia, and Fort Lewis, Washington, where Art retired from active duty in 1967. Since that time, Jo-Anne has lived in Olympia and the South Sound area. Her final two years of life on Earth were spent in the care of Junee and Jeanette Dizon at Infinite Care, AFH. The Dizons loved Jo-Anne like one of their own. The Read Family sincerely thanks Junee and Jeanette for all they did to care for Jo-Anne.
In her youth and as a young woman, Jo-Anne was active with Rainbow Girls and Eastern Star in Hoquiam. As an Army wife, she served as a Chapel volunteer and Red Cross Grey Lady. After settling in Olympia, she was active with PEO, AROWS, and the Lacey Presbyterian Church.
Jo-Anne had a strong Christian faith and shared that faith with her entire family. Christ-centered values were part of her life, and she instilled those values in her sons during their youth. She enjoyed a sense of humor and love of other people until her passing. She is very loved and will be missed by her family and many friends.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be no service. Jo-Anne will be interred at Tahoma National Cemetery with Art.
