Jennie C. Baker passed away on June 27, 2015 in Tumwater, Washington. Jennie was born on July 26, 1921 in Cle Elum, WA to Joseph and Maria (Zafarroni) Colombo. She was the oldest of Joseph and Maria’s two daughters.
Jennie attended elementary and high school in Cle Elum, where she met her future husband, William E. (Bill) Baker. After high school, Jennie moved to Seattle to attend business school, while Bill was serving in World War II. She and Bill were married in Texas in 1945 when Bill returned to the States after serving overseas.
Jennie and Bill moved back to Seattle in 1945, where Jennie worked as a secretary. Their two children Carol and Tim were born in Seattle. In 1957 the family moved to Walla Walla, WA. Jennie was a homemaker until the late 60’s, when she began working for the City of Walla Walla. During her career there, she worked for the fire department and then later became the secretary to the city manager. She retired in 1978.
Jennie and Bill enjoyed travelling and took several trips after retirement, and especially enjoyed the annual 40th Bomber Group reunions. They also enjoyed camping, which they began when their children were born and continued throughout their lives. Her favorite activities at home were gardening, reading, sewing and cooking. Jennie also volunteered for many organizations, including St. Mary Hospital, DeSales Catholic School, and Assumption Catholic Church, where she was a member for many years.
After Bill’s death in 2005, Jennie moved to Tumwater, where she was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and volunteered there and also for Capitol Medical Center.
Jennie was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Ricca Grecco, her husband William Baker, and her daughter Carol Baker Clark. She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Tim and Debra Baker of Tumwater, son in law Robert Clark of Seattle, and grandchildren Sara Clark Denton and her husband Robert Denton of Perth Australia, Shannon Baker of Albany, Oregon and Ty Baker of Tumwater. She is also survived by two great grandchildren, Jacob Denton and Jackson Snippen and nieces Kathy Graham, Constance Grecco, and Leslie Dempsey, and nephew Michael Grecco.
