at Lacey,Washington. She was born March 9th,1955 the
daughter of Harold R and Alice M (Pitchalonis) Fegley in
Coaldale, PA Preceded in death by her parents, twin
sister, Susan Fegley, brother James R Fegley and sister
Victoria (Fegley) Hinkel. She is survived by her brother
and sister-in-law Ronald A and Judith C Fegley, sisters,
Peggy A (Fegley)Gertz, Ann M (Fegley)Simard, and numerous
nieces and nephews.
Janis graduated from Tamaqua Area High School in 1973,
in Tamaqua PA, The University of Pennsylvania,Philadelphia
PA,earning a degree in Dental Hygiene in 1975. She learned
at U of Penn that if you were a member of the Pep Band you
could get into the basketball and football games free. So
she dusted off her French Horn and played in the Pep Band
for home games and the Penn Band for away games. She
worked in the dental health field for several years then
returned to college with a new goal. Graduating from
Wilkes College, Wilkes-Barre PA, in 1983 with a Bachelor
of Science Degree. She then moved on to the Philadelphia
College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) Philadelphia PA,
where she earned her Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine in
1987. She completed her internship (1988) and residency
(1989) at the Allentown Osteopathic Medical Center,
Allentown PA.
Janis practiced family medicine in Cannonsburg,
Allentown and her hometown of Tamaqua,PA before moving to
Washington State in 2000. She joined the Franciscan
Medical Group at the St Joseph Clinic,Tacoma WA. She was
instrumental in the opening of the Franciscan Medical
Group Clinic at Canyon Road,Puyallup/South Hill serving as
its Medical Director and having her practice there until
her retirement in 2019.
In November of 2018 Janis moved to the Panorama
Retirement Community in Lacey, WA where she and her garden
at the Pea Patch thrived. She was actively involved in the
community, volunteering her time and participating in
Panorama's many activities and events.
Prior to her retirement Janis discovered the joy of river
boat cruising in Europe. Because she had studied French
in high school her first and solo voyage was from Paris to
Normandy, a trip which she repeated with two traveling
companions this spring. She found joy in traveling, seeing
new places and meeting new people, whether it was by
boat,car, plane,train or bus,she was ready to pack a bag
and enjoy a journey.
There will be a Celebration of Life Service and Mass
on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at 6:30 PM at the Panorama
Chapel, Quinault Bldg,4th floor,1835 Circle Drive SE,
Panorama Campus,Lacey WA. A reception for sharing memories
of Janis will follow the service. Burial will be in Port
Carbon PA with her mother and sister Victoria at a later
date.
In 2016 she recognized a need and created the Janis
Fegley Endowed Scholarship Fund at her Alma Mater to
provide financial assistance to students enrolled in the
Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree program at PCOM
with demonstrated financial need who are from the Lehigh
Valley or Schuylkill County,Pennsylvania.
