Fred served various assignments with tours in Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Korea, Germany and frequent TDYs throughout Europe and Southeast Asia. He served as MTI at Lackland Air Force Base Texas training both men and women. Other assignments were NCOIC Intelligence, AWAC Wing, Tinker Air Force Base Oklahoma, NCOIC PSYOPS and Combined forces Command, Seoul Korea. He attended numerous survival schools and intelligence courses throughout his service career, as well as several undercover assignments for Military Intelligence.
Decorations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, four Air Force Commendation Medals, Army Commendation Medal, Presidential Unit Citation with an Oak Leaf Cluster, three Outstanding Unit Awards (one with “V” device), three Air Force Good Conduct Medals, Army National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with eight Stars, Vietnamese Honor Medal 2nd class and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm. He also earned the Combat Infantry Badge, Air Crew Member’s Badge, Master Parachutist Badge and Vietnamese Jump Wings.
Fred retired from active duty in 1980 with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant.
