Edna Alice Mills, 100, passed away Thursday March 30, 2017 at For Senior’s Sake in Shoreline, Wash. Edna was born Dec. 10, 1916 at Rochester, Wash., to Charles F. McCash and Alice (Goldsby) McCash. She grew up on the family farm on Michigan Hill and attended Meadows Grade School and Rochester High School. Post high school education was at Dietz Business College.
Edna worked in Olympia and Rochester prior to starting her family. After the family was grown, Edna worked for DSHS as a cottage parent and counselor at Maple Lane Residential School for Girls until retirement in Feb., 1977.
On Aug. 9, 1937, Edna married Kenneth B. Mills, also of Rochester. They made their home in the Rochester area for the next 50 years. In 1987 they moved to Tumwater, Wash. In 2015, Edna moved to north Seattle. While raising her family, Edna was an ardent flower grower and arranger, winning several awards in local competitions and was a member of the Washington State Garden Club. During their retirement years Edna and Kenny enjoyed traveling, fishing, and sports. They were members of Evergreen Good Sams Trailer Club.
Edna is survived by her children Jerry (Terry) Mills of Spokane, Wash., and Kaye (Gary) Bass of Seattle, Wash. Also included in her family are seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by one sister, Allydina Baker of Lacey, Wash., as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and six siblings.
Memorial services will be held at Mills & Mills Funeral Home and Memorial Park in Tumwater, Wash., on Tuesday April 18, 2017 at 1 p.m. A light fare reception will be held at Mills & Mills following the service.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
