Don doesn’t toot his own horn so WE PLAN TO TOOT IT FOR HIM! He has spent the majority of his adult life giving back to his community.
Don volunteered 34 years with Seafair as Shore Patrol Chairman, Waterside Communications Chairman, and Base Operations Chairman for the Race. In that time Don received the following Seafair awards: Committee of the Year for 3 years, the Darrell Newsum Award, the Volunteer of the Year Award and the prestigious Extra Mile Award.
Don also volunteered for 4 years as a basketball coach in Seattle. There he received the King County Parks & Recreation Volunteer of the Year.
Don simultaneously volunteered as a member of the Seafair Boat Club. He landed on the Board of Directors and later held the office of Rear Commodore, Vice-Commodore, and Commodore positions during his tenure.
Don also served 36 years as a Dockside Chairman for the Seafair Special Peoples Christmas Cruise.
Don moved to the South Sound area in 2003 where he met his wife Cynthia. Together they volunteered for their church, Seafair, JBLM Youth Sports, and the Tacoma Corvette Club. Don met one of our Corvette’s de Olympia members at an Olympia car show and decided to check it out. Both he and Cynthia enjoyed their “down to earth” attitude and decided to join in 2012.
Don served as Vice President for our CDO Corvette club for 2 years. He led many fun tours for their viewing and driving pleasure, as well as serving on the Vette Fest Committee for 5 years, and on their Board of Directors for 4 years.
Don’s volunteer philosophy is to always give back to his community and to help others have fun volunteering with him.
