Dean was a disciplined, routine loving, record keeping kind of man. His love of numbers and personable nature allowed him to work smart and become a successful businessman. He served in the National Guard obtaining the rank of Master Sergeant. His first job was a Mailroom sorter for the State of Washington Department of Labor and Industries. In 1959, Dean became an agent for Farmers Insurance and in 1960 was promoted to District Manager. Dean started his own independent Insurance Agency in 1963 representing Safeco Insurance. He retired in 1986 after a successful career in insurance at the age of 55.
Dean was one of the founders of the Washington State Employees Credit Union and took pride in the involvement he had with the credit union over the years. He was also a founding member of the “Flying O” Club and was an avid pilot of Cessna aircraft. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus, The Mutual Agents association, and served as the President of the Independent Agents Association. He enjoyed working out at the Tumwater Valley Athletic Club where he played racquetball well into his 70’s. His hobbies also included Stock Market investing, reading books and the daily newspaper.
Dean, a loving father and husband, was preceded by his wife Lillian A. Egan in 2007. He is survived by his children: Tom Egan (Sally), Tim Egan (Aleksandra), Denise Vigil (Jesse) and Zandria Michel; grandchildren: Dean T. Egan (Kelly Kane), Sarah Egan, Cody Vigil, Cole Vigil; and great-grandchild Jake Kane.
Those who knew and cared for Dean this last year at Garden Courte Memory Care Center spoke highly of his warm nature and quick smile. He was pleasant to be around and he will be missed by his family and friends.
