Danna was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota on February 13, 1940. She grew up in Tacoma, Washington, in a happy, rambunctious household with her beloved mother Shermy at the helm, graduating from Lincoln High School and The University of Puget Sound. Danna thrived in her long career with The Tacoma Community House where she made many lifelong friends and made a difference in the lives of many refugee and immigrant families during the 1970’s, 80’s, and 90’s.
Danna loved traveling, gardening, and spending time with her large family which included joyful weekends at the family beach place in Delano Bay. She was a long-time member of the Mary Ball Chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution, as well as The National Society United States Daughters of 1812. She sat on or chaired multiple committees during her time with these groups where she shared her passion for genealogy and research – for the chapter, family, and friends. Another life-long love for Danna was her sewing. Our family will cherish the many beautiful quilts and other gifts she made for us over the years.
Danna married Mike Clancy on December 30, 1962, and they enjoyed over 60 years of marriage together. She loved her family very much and will be missed by her husband Mike, daughters Colleen (Scott) and Janet, and grandchildren Alisa, Jackson, and Christina. Danna is also survived by her beloved “baby brother” Bob, sisters Susan and Judy, and brothers Richard and Dennis. She is preceded in death by her brother, Lee, her mother Shermy Kancianich, and father Dale Schermerhorn.
Our family would like to thank those that lovingly cared for Danna, including Selena Shepard, Krista Koval, and Heidi Bachman. Special heartfelt thanks go to Marilee Donovan, our cousin, whose unconditional and loving care for our family, but most especially for mom, during these past several months will never be forgotten. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Senior Action Network of Olympia.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.millsandmillsfunerals.com for the Clancy family.
