Bonnie was born on April 8,1934, to Alice Gertrude Swayne and Fritz August Bohm.
Bonnie was a lifelong resident of Olympia and spent her youth growing up and working on her family’s farm. That farm experience, along with being a descendant of German Immigrants, would lay the foundation for the person that she would come to be, feisty, but with a soft side.
Bonnie graduated from William Winlock Miller HS in 1952. After that she left farm life and served a 2-year enlistment in the United States Army.
In 1972 Bonnie would return to the family farm with her family, where she would reside until her passing.
On February 8, 1964, Bonnie would then marry Morris W. Ross, and they would remain married until his passing in 1983.
In 1970, after receiving a Clerical Certificate from Olympia Vocational Technical Institute, Bonnie would go to work in the Office of the Governor where she would spend the next 32 years, retiring in 2003. She would serve under 6 different Governor’s earning her the distinction as “the longest serving employee in the history of the Washington Governor’s Office”.
After retirement she would spend time with family and friends, feeding her bird’s, tending to her flower’s, dancing, and BOWLING.
Bonnie was an avid bowler, bowling in as many as 3 leagues at a time.
Bonnie was a member of the United States Bowling Congress, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, and the Loyal Order of Moose.
Bonnie was predeceased by her sister’s Opal Gifford and Florence M. Martinez and her brother Lee Ray Swayne. She is survived by her sister, May Dean, her daughter, Shirley A. Baker (Whit), Son, Steven A. Lucero (Lisa), granddaughter’s Jacki Nelson (Geoff), Lindsy Brewington (Justin), Jocelyn Saito (Totsuru), grandson’s Justin Lucero (April), Wade Baker, Gareth Baker, great granddaughter’s Charlotte Nelson, Elizabeth Lucero, Mirai Saito, great grandson’s Cole Nelson, Cooper Nelson, Asahi Saito, Taishi Saito, Elliott Brewington, along with niece’s, nephew’s, and many friends.
A Memorial will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at 12:00 PM at Mills and Mills Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 5725 Littlerock Road SW, Tumwater WA. 98512.
