Ben Frank Adkins, 85, of Tumwater, WA, passed away on January 10, 2024. Born March 6, 1938, in Pomp, City of West Liberty, Morgan County, KY. He is survived by his wife, Judy Adkins, his daughters Michelle Buenzli (John) and Lori Guggenmos (Brian). He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Elizabeth Shaver Indes and father, Stuart Kendall Adkins.
Ben proudly served 23 years in the United States Air Force. Retiring at the rank of Major, among many awards and citations, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. Ben dedicated himself to a life of service, exemplifying courage, discipline, and honor.
After his military service, Ben pursued a successful career as a Senior Staff Consultant at the Washington State Office of Financial Management then as the Washington State Deputy Director of Capitol Buildings and Grounds. After leaving work at the State of Washington, he was a Senior Research Scientist & Group Manager at Battelle Memorial Institute. Additionally, he established Ben Adkins & Associates - Northwest Management Consulting Services, which he operated until his retirement in 2013.
Ben was a member of VFW Post 11402, the Military Officer Association of America, American Legion Post 100, and a member of the Institute of Industrial Engineers.
Ben attended Long Beach Polytechnic High School, earned a BS in Industrial Engineering from Arizona State University, an MBA from Western New England University, and a BS in Systems Management from the University of Southern California.
Ben enjoyed skiing, sailing, photography and reading, and loved two Maltese dogs, Sadie and Mollie.
A visitation for Ben will be held on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Mills and Mills Funeral Home. Following the visitation, a funeral service will take place at 2:00 PM on the same day. The committal service will occur on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at 12:30 PM at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington.
