Steven Wood passed away on Wednesday Nov. 1, at the age of 63 in Tucson, AZ, after a long illness. A Vallejo native, Steve was born at Vallejo General Hospital on April 10, 1954. He is the oldest son of Morgan and Beverly Wood. He attended Vallejo schools K through 12 where he graduated from Vallejo High School in 1972. Following high school Steve attended Solano Community College and then continued his education at Chico State University where he received a bachelor's degree in physical education. Steve was active in sports throughout his youth. Growing up in Vallejo, Steve spent his weekends and summers playing basketball, football, and baseball at the local playgrounds with his many friends from the neighborhood. He played baseball at Vallejo Little League, Vallejo Babe Ruth, and the Vallejo Joe DiMaggio League. Steve played and lettered in both varsity football and baseball at Vallejo High School and played two years of baseball at Solano Community College. Following his graduation from college Steve resided in Vallejo until 1992. His work with Corning Costar took him to the Boston area where he relocated with his family in the summer of 1992. Following his retirement from Corning as Division Vice-President, Commercial Operations, Life Sciences, Steve relocated to Tucson in 2009 where he worked for the Rain Bird Corporation as their National Sales Manager. Steve is survived by his wife, Alecia; sons, Kyle (Kasia) and Ryan (Kayla) Wood of Oregon; stepdaughter, Tiffany Adams of Arizona; grandchildren, George, Tommy, and Theodore Wood; mother, Beverly (Mitch) Garsee of Vallejo; brother, Kevin (Dana) Wood of Benicia. Steve was preceded in his death by his father, Morgan "Porky" Wood. In lieu of flowers, Steven has requested a donation be made to the education fund for his Stepdaughter, Tiffany Adams.
